In August 2024, the College of Arts and Sciences began the process of developing a strategic plan through meaningful stakeholder engagement. We sought to set clear priorities and ambitious — yet achievable — goals, culminating in a plan that articulates a compelling 5-10 year vision for the college.
A leadership planning committee consisting of CAS faculty and staff, along with a team from Credo Higher Ed Consultants, facilitated this process. The entire college was invited to participate, including two key opportunities for stakeholder input:
November 2024: Small group discussions addressed several pointed questions to identify specific ways the college can fortify its strengths and illuminate its purpose. With this input, the leadership planning committee and Credo consultants drafted several proposed initiatives.
March 2025: The CAS community was invited to provide feedback on all draft initiatives. This input informed the committee's work as they finalized the initiatives that comprise the CAS Strategic Plan.

Plan Initiatives
Each initiative is intended to help fulfill at least one of the goals of the CAS Strategic Plan. These initiatives include:
The college will elevate interdisciplinary and intercultural programs and promote transformative experiential education focused on addressing pressing global challenges.
The college will cultivate activities that enable students to deeply reflect on, better articulate, and put into practice their transformative liberal arts experiences.
The college will promote faculty research, scholarship, and creative practice in CAS, including both individual work and work done in collaboration with students and and/or other faculty.
In collaboration with HR and broader University efforts, the college will address faculty and staff compensation equity through fundraising and other work, and will enhance career advancement opportunities for staff.
The college will address misalignments between institutional needs and allocation of work, focusing on areas such as workload, reward, community, and fairness.
The college will continue to cultivate a community that fosters inclusion and belonging by enhancing inclusive practices and retention efforts in teaching, research, service, hiring, and college/community interactions.
The College will focus fundraising efforts on targeted scholarships for CAS students to travel abroad and participate in off-campus opportunities led by CAS faculty.
The college will cultivate student career development processes and programs across CAS to support students' discovery of meaningful careers and vocations.
Working in collaboration with University Advancement and Marketing, Insights, and Communications and with engagement of alumni and other stakeholders, the college will effectively communicate the value of CAS, the impact of a liberal arts education, and the successes of CAS programs, faculty, and students.
