Paul G. Omodt (UST ’89, ’99) is a veteran of the Twin Cities communications landscape who has been part of some of the area’s biggest news stories. From the 1998 Northwest pilots’ strike to the I-35W bridge collapse, Paul has provided communications strategy to navigate complex issues, tell compelling stories, and earn a national reputation as a communications counselor along the way.
A Minneapolis native and proud 1984 graduate of Southwest High School, Paul earned his undergraduate degree at St. Thomas under the tutelage of Father James Whalen who emphasized communications strategy and ethical standards. Since graduation, Paul has worked in public relations in a variety of formats, from small agencies to the airline industry, and from large agencies and non-profits to his current enterprise as founder and principal of Omodt & Associates Critical Communications, a Twin Cities-based full-service communications firm. With Omodt & Associates, Paul helps clients using a best-of-breed communications approach which brings the best practices and practitioners together to solve their communications challenges.
Paul earned his Master’s in Business Communication from St. Thomas in 1999 and has received numerous local and national recognition for his work. Long active in the community, he also served on the St. Louis Park City Council for ten years and has served on numerous non-profit boards.
Paul returned to St. Thomas as an adjunct professor in 2015 and has taught in the undergraduate Communications and Journalism Department as well as in the Opus College of Business MBA program. Along with Dr. Michael Porter in the Opus program, he has conducted communications research that has been presented at several national conferences and published in national communications publications. He is an active member of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) and the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) where he frequently presents at local, national, and international conferences and seminars. In 2019, Paul was named a PRSA Fellow, the organization’s highest recognition.
