St. Thomas in Limerick
Study at the University of Limerick in scenic central Ireland and immerse yourself in an authentic Irish university experience with a cohort of your St Thomas peers. Recognized for its welcoming campus, student support, academic excellence, career preparation, and teaching focus, the University of Limerick (UL) welcomes students from Ireland and all over the world. St Thomas in Limerick students live on campus and take one course from a St Thomas faculty member and 4 courses through UL.
The Rome Empower Program
Located near the center of Rome and Vatican City, the Bernardi Campus serves as a base for St. Thomas students as they study various courses from organic chemistry to philosophy. The Bernardi Campus helps students immerse themselves in the rich history of Rome while staying on track to graduate on time from St. Thomas.
Designed for first-semester sophomores, the Rome Empower Program perfectly blends classroom with real world. Site visits, weekend excursions and cultural events immerse you in a new culture and broaden your perspective on the world, bringing relevance to the classroom and allowing you to think across disciplines.
All accepted students receive a $2,000 Bernardi Rome award to offset additional expenses like airfare and meals. Find more information regarding the Bernardi campus, coursework and application requirements.
Rome Empower Program Highlights
The Rome Empower Program provides a pathway for sophomore students pursuing a variety of majors - even those requiring chemistry - to spend fall semester in Rome. Students live and learn alongside St. Thomas faculty and residential directors at the St. Thomas Bernardi Campus.

Study Abroad During J-Term
Each January, CAS faculty lead courses all over the world fulfilling major, minor, and core requirements. Spend 2-3 weeks studying one course through the international lens of the program’s host country. J-Term programs are announced each February and applications open in April.
Study abroad during your first J-Term
Theology 100 in Rome
Visit historical and cultural sites throughout Rome, with potential class excursions throughout Italy. Advice will be provided for independent student travel to other sites in Italy. This opportunity is open exclusively to first-year students.

Catholic Studies in Rome
Students live at the Bernardi Residence, a St. Thomas-owned building, located in the Prati section of Rome, directly across from the Borghese Gardens, it is a 20-minute walk to the Vatican and a 30-to 40-minute walk to the Angelicum.
