Initiatives of the CAS Strategic Plan

Foster an Inclusive Community

The college will continue to cultivate a community that fosters inclusion and belonging.

The college will continue to cultivate a community that fosters inclusion and belonging by enhancing inclusive practices and retention efforts in teaching, research, service, hiring, and college/community interactions.

Why Is This Important?

It is critical to our mission to have a truly welcoming and inclusive climate in CAS, where all members of our community (students, staff, faculty) know that they belong and are appreciated. Success in achieving this goal requires enhanced understanding of patterns of cultural and human differences, meaningful opportunities for cross-cultural engagement, and a deep commitment to the university convictions, which include respect for the dignity of each person and their unique contributions to our vibrant and diverse community.

What Does Success Look Like?

The college will demonstrate an inclusive and intercultural mindset that recognizes and appreciates patterns of cultural and human difference and that is reflected in a more inclusive campus climate.

First-Year Goals

  1. Assess current efforts to engage faculty and staff in inclusive practices and student retention efforts with respect to teaching, hiring, service, and college/community interactions.
  2. Offer meaningful opportunities for cross-cultural engagement.
