  • Dr. Dalma Martinović-Weigelt is committed to supporting ideals of open society through her research activities. Her academic program strives to inform and shape policies that promote environmental protection and justice. Specific recent research interests include: 1) Characterization of effects of environmental stressors and contaminants (in vivo, in vitro and in silico) to inform environmental risk assessment, 2) Optimization and development of approaches for bioeffects-based environmental monitoring (high content/throughput tools), and 3) Characterization of proximate mechanisms that underlie behavior and reproduction in fish.

Dalma Martinović-Weigelt completed her MS in Biological Sciences (U of MS) and PhD in Fisheries Science & Water Resources (U of MN-Twin Cities), and has served as a National Academies Research Associate at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA; 2006-09). Dr. Martinović-Weigelt is a professor at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN, USA (2009-present).

Dr. Martinović-Weigelt has co-authored circa 55 research manuscripts and two books that assess occurrence and the effects of chemicals of emerging concern and other stressors. Dr. Martinović-Weigelt is a recipient of several U.S. EPA’s Scientific and Technological Achievement Awards. She has served on the Editorial Board of the Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry Journal and is a recipient of research funding from a variety of state and federal agencies including the U.S. Environmental Pollution Agency, U.S. Geological Survey, MN Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund, and National Science Foundation.
