Your Commitment
A typical week includes up to seven hours of program activities. There is no commitment to the military until the start of your second or third year in the program.
The University of St. Thomas is proud to host the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) Detachment 410 and its associated Department of Aerospace Studies. Air Force ROTC is an active-duty commissioning program designed to prepare students to assume leadership positions in the U.S. Air Force and Space Force upon graduation.
Cadets work toward their degree as full-time college students while completing associated educational and military training concurrently throughout the academic year. Ultimately, cadets will commission as Second Lieutenants and begin their careers in the Air Force and Space Force.

If you are interested in becoming a cadet in Detachment 410, it is important to understand the commitments of the program and life after commissioning.
A typical week includes up to seven hours of program activities. There is no commitment to the military until the start of your second or third year in the program.
The four mandatory components of the training curriculum are aerospace studies courses, leadership laboratory, physical training and field training.
Regardless of the college/university you choose to attend, Air Force ROTC can provide you with some generous scholarship opportunities to help cover tuition and living costs while in school. Please visit the Air Force ROTC recruiting website to learn more about scholarships.
It is more common to start Air Force ROTC without a scholarship than with one. Air Force ROTC is still a great way to commission into the U.S. Air Force or Space Force. It is still possible to earn an in-college scholarship depending on current eligibility criteria published each year as a cadet in the program.
Even if you do not secure an Air Force ROTC scholarship, you will still complete all academic degree and training program requirements and commission active-duty.
